Arsenal are set to turn their attention away from Alexander Isak and instead set their sights on Sporting centre-forward Viktor Gyokeres as a top target for the upcoming summer transfer window, according to reports. The Gunners' recent appointment of Andrea Berta as their new transfer chief had raised questions about whether the club will continue to pursue Isak, given that Berta did not attempt to sign him during his tenure as Atletico Madrid's sporting director.
Newcastle ultimately secured the striker's services from Real Sociedad, and the Magpies have no intention of letting him go, with any potential asking price likely to be extremely high. In contrast, signing Gyokeres, who is also a member of the Swedish national team alongside Isak, would be a more affordable option, with a reported price tag of £58.5m, £25m less than his release clause.
say Arsenal will focus their attention on Gyokeres which leaves one less club for Newcastle to fear snatching their No.9 away.
During his press conference ahead of the Leicester City match on Monday, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe expressed his confidence in Isak's future at St James' Park, stating: "There is loads more to come and I believe that with everybody. If I didn't then I'd be the wrong coach for him."
Newcastle United's main man Isak is battling a groin injury as he gears up for the clash against Leicester City, having missed only a trio of Premier League matches this season and consistently proving reliable.
Howe added: "He is very professional, I have to say that. Regarding Alex, he has his own. I wouldn't say physio, but he has a physio that he uses in conjunction with the football club that he'll fly in and fly out, but we certainly back that. We've got good relationships with the people that try and look after him.
"Of course we have our own staff and several staff members here who he is very close with. It is about building those relationships and that trust so that he knows that we're doing the right work for him and his body and then of course Alex has to be professional himself in the times when we don't see him. He has to look after himself and dedicate himself and dedicate himself to football.
"It is the only way he is going to get to the absolute top and maximise his career."
With Isak still signed up until 2028, Newcastle are planning to propose a fresh contract to the forward later in the year.
