When it comes to , Majorca is definitely up there, but a recent incident could leave a negative impact on the island's reputation.
A group of tourists that were due to stay at a popular complex on the island have cancelled their booking due to one of the buildings at the .
The 46 German travellers were meant to arrive at the Club Bellevue in Puerto Alcudia on April 6 by ferry from Barcelona. They had booked a package with an agency to stay for five nights in Majorca.
However, the group have now not only cancelled their Bellevue booking but changed their plans deciding not to travel to Majorca at all.
Hoteliers in Majorca, meanwhile, have expressed their "maximum concern" about cases of squatters in tourist establishments.
According to , Club Bellevue is the third establishment where squatters have been found. The Sol y Mar Aparthotel in Cala Bona also had a case bu the situation was resolved quickly.
Apartments in Cala d'Or has also been faced with squatters that have been there for years, however the complex isn't and hasn't been active and running.
As a result of the concerns, and other business sectors are demanding a change to the law that is claimed to be too easy on squatting.
Security has also been increased in order to ensure that other establishments do not face the same issues as Bellevue ahead of the approaching tourism season.
Unfortunately, while trying to resolve the situation, the negative publicity that may come from it has furthered the concerns as Bellevue attracts tourists from various countries especially the UK.
The tourist complex has already faced various hit including Jet2 not accepting bookings that clash with the Rebel Island Spring Break for Portuguese students, between Aprill 11 and 16. It is reported that it is a response to the vast number of complaints made in 2024.
