The has "the best food in the country" according to a world renowned triple-Michelin starred chef.
While Spain has a stellar , David Muñoz, named the World's Best Chef three times consecutively, places one city on top.
In his expert opinion, is the home of gastronomical excellence with its "unique" pull that allows you to enjoy different cuisines from all over the world.
It should come as no surprise as he was born and raised in the capital, but he's backed up by the 2025 Michelin Guide for Spain, which revealed the city now boasts a 28 starred restaurants.
Muñoz previously shared his favourite spots, including where to try a traditional Spanish tortilla, at the plant-filled La Primera.
For traditional churros with chocolate, he deemed San Ginés the original which is open around the clock for late night cravings, although he also admitted there's "no better plan than eating a cocido with friends and talking about padel".
Muñoz's credentials make him a man in the know, having earned his first in 2010 and since racked up three more. He was also named the World's Best Chef three years in a row in the Best Chef Awards.
One of his three restaurants, DiverXO, was rated the third best restaurant in the world in 2023 by the The World's 50 Best Restaurants awards, which serves a single tasting menu with aspects of Mediterranean, Chinese, and Japanese cuisine.
In the Best Chef Awards, five out of the top ten chefs were from Spain, showcasing the momentum and international recognition of Spanish cuisine.
However the other named chefs may disagree with the Madrid native David Muñoz over his claims, as second best chef Albert Adrià runs their restaurant Enigma in Barcelona, and fifth place Andoni Luis Aduriz runs Mugaritz in San Sebastián.
