PM Modi takes holy dip at Maha Kumbh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday to attend the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. The mela is known as the world's biggest spiritual and cultural congregation.

PM Modi took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam—the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati rivers—and prayed to Maa Ganga.

Before the dip, he was seen taking a boat ride on the Yamuna with Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath.

Spiritual significance

The PMO confirmed that PM Modi's visit coincided with Magh Ashtami, an auspicious day in the Hindu calendar marked by devotion and acts of charity.

"In line with his commitment to promote and preserve India's spiritual and cultural heritage, the Prime Minister has consistently taken proactive steps to enhance infrastructure and facilities at pilgrimage sites," the PMO stated.

Security measures heightened for PM Modi's visit
Security arrangements

Security was tightened for the prime minister's visit. Personnel from various security forces were deployed at key locations to ensure safety.

Five areas within the mela grounds were marked as high-security zones.

CCTV cameras and drones were also used to enhance surveillance and keep a real-time watch.

During his last visit to Prayagraj on 13th December, 2024, the PM inaugurated 167 development projects worth ₹5,500 crore, improving connectivity, amenities and services for the general public.

Mahakumbh Mela 2025 attracts millions of devotees
Pilgrim turnout

The Maha Kumbh draws millions of devotees from across the globe. Till February 4, over 382 million bathers had taken part since its start.

On Wednesday alone, over 3.748 million devotees took a holy dip at the Sangam.

This includes over one million Kalpvasis and 2.748 million pilgrims who came in the wee hours to seek divine blessings.

Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk also visited Maha Kumbh on February 4. He took part in spiritual activities with Adityanath.
