According to a survey, India will rank among the top 25 countries on the World Bank Logistics Performance Index by 2030 thanks to strong infrastructure development brought about by programs like PM Gati Shakti and the National Logistics Policy. Out of 139 nations, India is ranked 38th in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI), with the goal of ranking in the top 25 by 2030.
Ahead of the international logistics show LogiMAT India 2025, which will take place at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai from February 13–15, the research, which was carried out by global exhibitor Messe Stuttgart India in collaboration with EAC International Consulting, was made public on Tuesday. In order to do this, the research emphasizes that robust infrastructure development via programs like PM Gati Shakti and the National Logistics Policy would be crucial (India’s ambition to be in the top 25 by 2030 in LPI).
By 2029, the Indian freight and logistics industry is expected to have grown from USD 317.26 billion in 2024 to USD 484.43 billion, at an annual growth rate of 8.8%.
As a major step toward becoming a developed economy under the government’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, India is rapidly becoming a global logistics center, the statement said. According to the report, the nation’s logistics expenses now make up 13–14% of GDP, but the government is committed to bringing this number down to single digits by 2030 via supply chain optimization and infrastructure improvements.
With the goal of reducing travel times by 66% and increasing logistical competitiveness, India is promoting multi-modal transformation in line with the Amrit Kaal vision by building new airports, high-speed roadways, and hyperloops. By 2026, India, the main economy with the highest rate of growth in the world, is expected to overtake Japan and take fourth place.
It said that the National Logistics Policy and PM Gati Shakti are two important pieces of policy assistance needed to achieve this. In order to improve logistics efficiency across important economic corridors including as the energy, mining, cement, port connection, and high traffic density sectors, 434 projects totaling Rs 11.17 lakh crore have been selected under PM Gati Shakti.
According to the research, the ideal approach to deal with issues like infrastructure fragmentation and gaps is to shift towards creative solutions and cutting-edge technology, which may also establish India as a worldwide leader in logistics.
It said that a concerted effort by the public and commercial sectors is necessary for this. Initiatives like PM Gati Shakti are intended to overcome infrastructural and logistical bottlenecks and guarantee the smooth flow of people, products, and services, according to Aditya Gupta, CEO of Messe Stuttgart India.
Messe Stuttgart India Pvt Ltd is organizing the second edition of LogiMAT India, which is a component of LogiMAT Stuttgart, the largest intralogistics show in Europe.
The German company Landesmesse Stuttgart GmbH is the sole owner of Messe Stuttgart India Pvt Ltd.
