Early trading on new foreign capital inflows causes markets to rise.


With new foreign money inflows and a strong trend in US markets, benchmark indexes Sensex and Nifty started the day on a high note on Wednesday. Early trading saw the 30-share BSE benchmark Sensex rise 151.6 points to 78,735.41. At 23,807.30, the NSE Nifty increased by 68.05 points.


Mumbai municipal body’s Rs 74K-cr budget for 2025: ambitious objectives without tax increases

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) did not raise property or water supply taxes in its Rs 74,427 crore budget for 2025–2026. Nonetheless, new income initiatives include taxing commercial slums and imposing a solid waste charge. Bhushan Gagrani, the municipal head, announced limited fresh project clearances, citing BMC’s handling of projects valued over Rs 2 lakh crore. Reforms to trade licensing fees and other sources of income were also suggested in the budget. The opposition, however, attacked the budget, claiming that it favors private contractors at the expense of regular Mumbai residents.


Mumbai: Police in Pydhonie lose track of an NRI implicated in the murder of a deaf-dumb guy

Jagpalpreeth Singh, an Indian man living in Brussels who is suspected of having participated in the murder of a deaf-and-dumb person, has eluded the Mumbai police. Arshad Ali Shaikh, 33, was killed at a Pydhonie home on August 5 of last year by his buddies Shivjeet Singh, 34, and Jay Pawan Chawda, 32. Before putting Shaikh’s corpse in a bag, they murdered him with a hammer and smashed beer bottles. The railway police stopped the two when they tried to dispose of the corpse aboard an express train at Dadar station 11. Ruksana, Shaikh’s wife, was later taken into custody in relation to the crime.
