President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration has coincided with the arrival of a US C-17 cargo plane transporting more than 205 Indians in Amritsar, Punjab. According to PTI, the US Air Force-operated aircraft arrived at Shri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport after taking off from San Antonio, Texas.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s impending trip to Washington coincides with the first round of deportations of illegal immigrants. People who entered the US illegally, sometimes via “donkey routes” or other illicit means, are among those being deported.

Those who are being deported will have their whole past examined in addition to their papers checked. It has not yet been formally stated how many Indians were deported aboard the trip. Some of the Indians who were deported from the United States could have committed crimes in India prior to their arrival. Anyone discovered to have a criminal past will be sent to prison. Forty-five U.S. officials and eleven crew members are also on the trip.


While those from Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh would be taken by land, plans have been made to convey those being deported from other states to their states by air. For this, the police and administration have put in place stringent security measures, and security organizations are on high alert.


Customs, immigration, and the police have set up assistance stations to speed up the procedure. The district government has not yet established any jail facilities or issued an order to hold the Indians who are being deported.


Notably, Trump emphasized in his statements throughout the election campaign that he would deport 11 million illegal immigrants from the US. S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, had previously said that New Delhi was amenable to the “legitimate return” of Indian people who were unlawfully residing outside, including in the United States.
