New Delhi: Several prominent Indian cricketers have returned to the domestic cricket scene amid concerns about their recent form and criticism for sidelining domestic competitions. Players like Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Rishabh Pant have made notable contributions as the second phase of the Ranji Trophy kicked off.
Virat Kohli’s return to domestic cricket, after nearly 12 years, had sparked speculation. Rumors about him dealing with a neck injury had emerged, explaining his absence from Delhi’s match against Saurashtra. To clear all doubts, the former Indian captain was seen practicing in the nets ahead of Delhi’s upcoming clash with Railways.

Following their Ranji Trophy stint, the players will shift focus to the three-match ODI series against the visiting England team. At present, England is engaged in a five-match T20I series against India, led by Suryakumar Yadav. For those unaware, on January 18, the BCCI announced the squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy and confirmed that the same lineup will compete against England in the ODI series.
Fans were left confused when star fast bowler Mohammed Siraj was excluded from the squad, with Harshit Rana being selected as the travel reserve. The most positive news from the announcement was the inclusion of Mohammed Shami, who has not played for India since the 2023 World Cup final on November 19 due to an ankle injury.
