Pete Hegseth: The US Senate on Friday (local time) confirmed the appointment of Pete Hegseth as Defense Secretary, in a narrow vote on Thursday, and Vice President J.D. Vance (Vice President JD Vance) won by a margin of 50-50. Hegseth, a former Fox News host and National Guard veteran, was nominated by President Donald Trump in November to lead the Defense Department. His confirmation process was controversial, with Hegseth facing investigation into allegations of sexual harassment and financial mismanagement in two Giants organizations.
Hegseth, 44, has vehemently denied the allegations and told the Senate Armed Services Committee earlier this month that he has moved on from past mistakes. “I'm not a perfect man, but liberation is real,” he said during his confirmation hearing, where he also pledged to restore the Pentagon's “war-fighting character.”
Despite initial skepticism, Hegseth's assurances and his military background helped him gain the support of a majority of Senate Republicans, resulting in his confirmation.
On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump congratulated Hegseth on his appointment and said, “He will make a great Secretary of Defense!”
