New Delhi: Fast bowler Mohammed Shami is set to return to international action during Indias upcoming five-match T20 series against England which starts on January 22 in Kolkata. Shami who last featured for India in the 2023 World Cup final in Ahmedabad was sidelined due to an ankle injury that required surgery. After recovering the 34-year-old made his comeback in the Ranji Trophy played in the T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and is also partaking in the ongoing 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy. Unfortunately he missed Indias disappointing tour of Australia due to knee swelling. - A report by the Indian Express
A BCCI release on December 23 had stated: Based on the current medical assessment the BCCI medical team has determined that his knee requires more time for controlled exposure to bowling loads. Consequently he has not been deemed fit for consideration for the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The selectors have decided to include Dhruv Jurel as the backup wicketkeeper in the squad with in-form Sanju Samson taking the primary role while Rishabh Pant is left out. Jurel replaces Jitesh Sharma in the lineup. All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy who impressed during the Test tour of Australia has also earned a spot in the T20 squad taking Ramandeep Singhs place. Meanwhile all-rounder Shivam Dube has been dropped and Yashasvi Jaiswal has been brought in to replace Abhishek Sharma at the top of the order.
