It’s officially wedding season, and the internet is buzzing with moments from celebrations around the world that have left everyone surprised and amazed. In India, where weddings are as much about food as they are about rituals, one common complaint among wedding-goers is the monotony of menus. With back-to-back invites, the endless stream of similar dishes often leaves guests craving something different. But one wedding served up a surprise that left everyone talking—a dessert twist no one saw coming: mirchi ka halwa .

Desserts often make or break a wedding-goer’s experience, leaving a lasting impression long after the festivities end. To avoid disappointing their guests, most opt for safe and popular choices like gulab jamun, kheer, or ice cream. However, mirchi ka halwa—a bold and unconventional pick—has captured the internet’s attention, becoming one of the most talked-about wedding moments of the season.

The woman who shot the video can be heard saying that, " She has eaten a lot of sweets, but this is the first time she has heard about mirch ka halwa." Zooming in on the halwa, one can see green chillies coated with silver food foil and the person behind the counter continuously giving a stir to the halwa. Expressing her astonishment, the woman turns to those standing beside her and asks if they have ever heard of such a halwa. In unison, they all reply that they haven’t.

The post left people amazed, as evident from the flood of comments expressing shock and curiosity. While some liked this surprise, others couldn't believe that a chilli can be used to create a sweet dish. One user commented, 'If we wanted green chillies, we would have taken pakodas.'

Mirchi ka halwa

Believe it or not, mirchi ka halwa is a real dish, and it’s as intriguing as it sounds! In fact, several food blogs and recipe websites detail how to prepare this dish. According to a blog post, the process begins by washing the chilies thoroughly, removing all the seeds, and grating them. The grated chili is then added to hot ghee in a pan, stirred for a while, and enhanced with mawa, sugar, and dry fruits to bring out its unique flavor.
