Backlash has been generated by a performance during the Paris Olympics opening ceremony, especially from the Christian community. The performance included drag queens standing behind a table that looked like Leonardo da Vinci’s painting of the “Last Supper,” at which Jesus and his disciples dined.

A dancer donned a voluminous silver headpiece that had a striking resemblance to a halo, while another was decked out in blue and embellished with flowers, perhaps signifying a course of the feast. The performance has been met with intense criticism and anger on social media, with many users branding it a “insult” to Catholics.

“Paris in 2024 has become a fully dystopian Woke event.” Transgend*r mockeries of the Last Supper, the Golden Calf idol, and even the Pale Horse from the Book of Revelation abounded throughout the opening ceremony. Christian viewers are not welcome at the Olympics, as Texas-based journalist Kyle Becker said on his ‘X’ social media account.

Leading American citizens and political analysts denounced the action, claiming it was a disrespectful gesture to Christianity and a message of exclusion to the 2.4 billion Christians throughout the globe. “It is unacceptable to open your event with men in drag portraying Jesus and the disciples,” said US radio presenter Clint Russell. “The president of the US-based NGO Judicial Watch, Tom Fitton, stated that the transnational Left holds a low regard for Western civilization.”

The organizers of the Paris Olympics defended their plan by saying that the spectacle was meant to mockingly highlight the ridiculousness of human violence. But the criticism persisted, with several pundits raising issues about the wider ramifications of making fun of religious customs in a public setting such as the Olympics. A “headless” Marie Antoinette and a sequence implying a sex encounter in France’s national library were among the other contentious aspects of the event, according to FOX News.

Marion Marechal, a member of the European parliament and a conservative French politician, cautioned spectators worldwide that this divisive exhibition did not fully reflect French people. “To all the Christians across the globe who are watching the #Paris2024 event and are offended by this drag queen version of the Last Supper, please understand that a left-wing minority prepared for any provocation is speaking, not France. #notinmyname, the woman wrote.
