The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the Southwest Monsoon will reach Kerala within the next 24 hours. As of May 28, 2024, conditions are increasingly favorable for the monsoon's progression.

The monsoon has already moved further into the South Arabian Sea and the Maldives region. Over the next three to four days, it is expected to spread into more areas including the South Arabian Sea, the rest of the Maldives and Comorin region, parts of the Lakshadweep area, Kerala, the Southwest and Central Bay of Bengal, the Northeast Bay of Bengal, and sections of the Northeastern states.

Heavy Rains Hit Kerala

On Tuesday, Kerala experienced heavy rains and strong winds, disrupting daily life. Continuous rain since early morning in Kochi and nearby areas caused significant flooding, making narrow lanes and busy roads impassable. The flooding kept many residents indoors, and vehicles moved slowly on highways due to submerged streets.

Heatwave Relief in North India

Meanwhile, North India is experiencing a severe heatwave, with temperatures reaching 50 degrees Celsius. The IMD reported that Churu recorded a maximum temperature of 50.5 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours. However, a western disturbance is expected to bring relief to Rajasthan on May 31, potentially causing thunderstorms, dust storms, and light rain. This weather change is likely to lower temperatures by 2-4 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours.
