Itanagar, April 26: In a remarkable achievement, Arunachal Pradesh has successfully declared 19 out of its 27 districts as malaria-free, moving closer to its ambitious target of eradicating malaria by 2027.

This announcement was made during the World Malaria Day celebrations organized by the National Centre for Vector Borne Diseases Control (NCVBDC) under the Department of Health Services in Naharlagun.

Dr. KT Mulung, the Deputy Director of Health Services and State Programme Officer for NCVBDC, emphasized that this accomplishment marks a “significant milestone” in the state's efforts to eliminate malaria. He credited the success to ongoing awareness initiatives, effective monitoring, timely medical interventions, and robust collaboration across various sectors.

Dr. Mulung pointed out the notable decrease in malaria cases, with only 32 reported in 2025, showcasing the effectiveness of the public health strategies and the dedication of the Health Department.

The districts that have been declared malaria-free include Anjaw, Dibang Valley, East Kameng, East Siang, Kamle, Kra Daadi, Kurung Kumey, Leparada, Longding, Lower Dibang Valley, Lower Siang, Lower Subansiri, Namsai, Pakke Kessang, Siang, Tawang, Upper Subansiri, West Kameng, and West Siang.

During the event, participants engaged in a malaria pledge and slogan session, reaffirming their commitment to prevention, early diagnosis, and prompt treatment. An awareness film was also presented to highlight the importance of these efforts.

The program was attended by senior health officials, program officers, consultants, field staff, and various stakeholders. It concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. PJ Sharma, Consultant for Monitoring & Evaluation at NCVBDC.
