New Delhi. INS Kalpeni, a fast attack craft of the Indian Navy, has reached Gaan of Addu Atoll. This is an important step in the ongoing maritime engagement between India and Maldives. Giving information about the incident in a post on Twitter, the Indian High Commission in Maldives said that the Indian Navy ship INS Kalpeni Gan has reached Addu Atoll. Emphasizing the strategic importance of this visit, it was said that this visit underlines our deep and friendly relations including multidimensional defense cooperation.
Further strengthening this regional reach under the Neighborhood First policy, India had earlier achieved another significant maritime milestone in Maldives when INS Sunayna reached the capital Male on April 6. This last voyage was part of the IOS SAGAR initiative. According to an official press release issued by the Indian High Commission in Maldives, this initiative reflects India’s strategic vision in the Indian Ocean region and its commitment towards deeper cooperation with neighboring countries. INS Sunayna, a Saryu-class offshore patrol vessel, is currently operated by a multinational contingent of 16 friendly nations. It was welcomed with full naval honors by the Maldives National Defense Force. Before reaching the port, INS Sunayna and MNDF Coast Guard forces conducted intensive joint maritime skills training exercises. The main focus of this phase at sea was on tactical station-keeping, advanced signaling and extensive small arms firing practice for the crew.
