Brits have named their favourite theme parks in the UK, with one unexpected spot taking third place. Nestled in the woodlands of a 2,000-acre estate at the heart of Yorkshire is a beloved day out for kids and parents.
Stockeld Park has been the home of the Grant family for more than 150 years. The mansion house is constructed of stone in the style of a Palladian villa and features a cantilevered staircase, 18th and 19th centuryfurniture and works of art. Features of the grounds include a dovecote, lodges, a ha-ha, a walled garden, a chapel and stables. The large estate is open to the public on every school holiday and many weekends throughout the year, offering adventure and family fun.
The park's Enchanted Forest is packed with adventure, offering enough to keep even the most active kid occupied: there is the Tangle Tree Climb, a netted adventure play area, the huge sandpit at Woodsands Cove, or the Teepee Encampment playground. There is also the indoor Playhive, a labyrinth, bumper boats, go-karts, a train, and three places to eat.
Tickets for April are £12.32 for late entry (2pm) or £17.82 for all-day entry. Entry to the Playhive alone is £13.50. A three-month membership is £40.
Stockeld Park came third on TripAdvisor's list of the UK's best theme parks by customer reviews. It has a 4.6-star rating, from 9,000 reviews.
One reviewer said: "A great day out. It wasn't too busy, we often feel as though other places let too many people in - we didn't have to queue for anything, and it wasn't too busy in any of the play areas.
"There was so much to do, it was a full day out to enjoy. The Playhive is incredible and the star of the show. We will definitely be returning."
Another said: "It's always a brilliant day out. We found that the children are now at the perfect age (six to eight) to get the most out of what Stockeld has to offer, and we went on pretty much everything."
One added: "The photos do not do it justice! The indoor Playhive is absolutely unbelievable, and every play area in the Enchanted Forest is beautifully done. Kids of all ages seemed to be enjoying themselves."
In first place, according to customers, was Alton Towers in Staffordshire, with 3.8 stars across 25,000 reviews. In second place was Thorpe Park in Surrey, with 3.7 stars across 17,000 reviews.
