There was chaos on Friday due to sudden firing in the food court of a mall located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana state of America. At least one person died in the incident, while five others were injured. According to the police, this attack was not targeted at any common person, but was the result of a dispute between two groups.
The incident started around 1.30 pm, when an argument broke out between two groups and the matter soon escalated into firing. Initially there was news of 10 people being injured, but later the police clarified that only five people were injured. Police Chief TJ Morse said that five people have been detained in this case and now there is no threat to the general public.
After the firing, people present in the mall started running here and there to save their lives. Desiree Batten, a shop employee, said that she and her colleagues immediately hid in a room and remained there until the police arrived.
There was a commotion in the mall.
After the incident, an atmosphere of panic was created in the entire mall. Many people reported that they saw people crying and running. Kennedy Barnum, an eyewitness, said that as soon as the news of the shooting was received, the security guard immediately asked to leave the place.
Police have appealed to the people that if anyone has made a video of the incident then they should cooperate in the investigation. Till evening, a heavy police force remained deployed outside the mall, helicopters kept vigil and continuous patrolling continued in the area.
Mall closed for the whole day
Mall spokeswoman Lindsay Kahn described the incident as a “terrible day” and said the mall was closed for the day for security reasons. The police is investigating the matter and all aspects to the incident are being investigated.
