Chennai Super Kings wicketkeeper and opener Sanju Samson has scored his second century in IPL 2026, this one coming against CSK’s arch rivals, the Mumbai Indians.
The MI vs CSK game is Match 33 of IPL 2026. It was played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and saw the home team win the toss and decide to bowl first.
To open the batting for the Super Kings came out their regular opening duo, Sanju Samson and team captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. The two gave Chenai a decent start. Gaikwad, after struggling with form in this tournament, was hitting well at the start of the innings.
However, despite getting a fine start, the skipper departed at the end of the third over for 22 off 14. The score at this point was 32/1. But a wicket would not slow Samson down, who hit three boundaries and a six in the very next over, bowled by opposition captain Hardik Pandya.
Sanju popped off towards the end of the powerplay and would be batting at 31 off 15 at the sixth over mark. On the other hand, in the sixth over, bowled by Mitchell Santner, Sarfaraz Khan was clean bowled for 14 off eight.
Shivam Dube would depart at the start of the ninth over for five off eight as Sanju watched the CSK batting order collapse around him. Nevertheless, that wasn’t going to stop the Kerala-native, who went on to score a half-century in 36 balls.
Dewald Brevis would provide some support from the other end. The South African made 21 off 11 before getting out in the 11th over. The Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians match scorecard saw CSK at 122/4 at the end of the 11th. This shows they were scoring runs at a decent pace.
Kartik Sharma walked in to bat in the net and would not have a fine evening on the job. The youngster made 18 runs and took 19 balls to do so. So, all the responsibility of keeping the run rate up fell on Samson, who took up this duty rather well.
Artik got out on the 17th. Jamie Overton walked in, made 15 off seven, and got out at the end of the 18th. At this point, Sanju was batting at 78 off 43, in striking distance of a ton. Samson would make the remaining runs in the next two overs; it took a boundary on the final ball of the innings to take him to the three-digit mark, as Sanju Samson was not out at the end of the 20th over for 101 off 54.
The Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings match scorecard after the first innings read 207/6, with about half of those runs being made by Sanju Samson. The second-highest scorer for the Super Kings in this CSK versus MI match was Ruturaj Gaikwad, who scored 22 runs.
