The Government of Punjab has approved an interest-free loan scheme aimed at supporting Group-D employees in meeting essential household needs. The decision was announced by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, who stated that eligible employees will receive financial assistance specifically for the purchase of wheat. Under the scheme, a minimum loan amount of ₹10,340 will be provided to qualifying employees without any interest burden. Officials indicated that the initiative is intended to ease financial pressure on lower-income government staff, particularly for meeting basic consumption requirements.



The announcement comes as part of broader employee welfare measures being undertaken by the state administration led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The scheme focuses on providing targeted support to a specific category of employees who may face challenges in managing household expenses. According to details shared, the loan is meant to assist employees in procuring wheat for domestic use, which remains a staple food item across the region.
