Dusting is a constant chore for everyone, and it can reappear again in a couple of days. This is especially true in the summer months, when windows are open and dust floats more freely through the home. Skirting boards collect dust, pet hair, and lint, and they're not the easiest areas to clean.

From grooves to awkward corners of the home, cleaning skirting boards can take a significant amount of time. Luckily, there are ways to get rid of skirting board dust and stop it from resettling for ages, according to cleaning fans who posted advice on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group.

Posting on the group, Stella Hayes asked: "Does anyone have any ideas to stop dust collecting on skirting boards or hard floor?"

Sarah March said: "I use tumble dryer sheets, they are anti-static so repel the dust. Bonus is they make the room smell lush."

The cleaning fanatic added that they even reduce the amount of dog hair floating around the room.

Jacqui Harden added: "Tumble dryer sheets work fantastically for me and leave the room smelling nice too."

Dryer sheets are coated with chemicals that reduce static electricity. Dust is often attracted to surfaces due to static charge, so wiping the area with a sheet leaves behind a thin layer of anti-static.

While it won't stop dust from settling completely, it'll slow how quickly it builds up, meaning you'll need to clean less often.

The cleaning hack has been tested several times and has proven extremely effective.

Other users recommended wiping the skirting boards with a mixture of water and fabric softener.

Claire Phillips said: "A capful of fabric softener, hot water, cloth. Wipe all around; it prevents dust from settling for weeks thanks to its slippery texture. Works really well."

Other comments warned against using fabric softener around the home, especially if you have young children or pets, due to the chemicals.
