With summer holidays looming, lots of people are preparing to jet off abroad. With skincare becoming more and more popular, a lot of these people will be bringing their lotions and potions with them - however, skincare experts are warning thattravelling with skincare can be trickier than it looks.
Experts at Landys Chemist have shared the top ways that skincare products can trip you up at the border. Skincare expert Rhysa Phommachanh said: "Many travellers are now packing full skincare routines in their hand luggage, but it can be confusing knowing which products are allowed. As a general rule, if a product can be spread, rubbed, or sprayed, it will usually fall under airport liquid restrictions."
For example, many skincare products now come in the form of jellies, balms and sticks.
These all count as liquids through airport security, as do sheet masks and eye patches.
If you do not comply with airport security rules, you may face travel delays or have your items confiscated.
To save space, people sometimes decant larger products into smaller containers to fit them through.
However, these unlabelled containers can raise questions at the border and lead to manual checks, which can take time.
It's also likely that any pressurised containers like facial mists, setting sprays or spray sunscreens will need to be inspected manually and delay security queues.
It's very important to check the rules at the airports you are travelling through as new liquid regulations are being phased in across the country.
Some airports will have more relaxed rules than others, so make sure you know what the rule is before you fly.
When it comes to skin care, less is often more. Rhysa said: "A more simplified approach tends to work best for long-haul travel.
"Basic essentials such as lip balm, a lightweight moisturiser, or a facial mist are usually more than enough to maintain hydration without overwhelming the skin barrier."
