Monsoon Alert: Changes in weather patterns are being observed across various parts of India. While people in North India are grappling with severe heat, South India has been experiencing intermittent rainfall over the past 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain and strong winds in several states across the country between April 22 and April 27. The Meteorological Department states that thunderstorms and light snowfall may also be witnessed in Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

According to the IMD, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Odisha, and Jharkhand. Additionally, strong winds are expected to prevail in these states. Conversely, heatwave conditions are likely to persist in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh for the next two days. During this period, the severe heat may gradually extend towards parts of East and Central India.

Furthermore, the IMD has issued an alert for Himachal Pradesh regarding thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds on April 25 and 26. Light rainfall may also occur in isolated pockets within these states.

According to the Meteorological Department, spells of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are likely to continue in Arunachal Pradesh on April 22, and in Assam and Meghalaya between April 22 and April 27. Light to moderate rainfall—and in some isolated areas, heavy rainfall—may be recorded across several regions.

The Meteorological Department forecasts heavy rainfall in several parts of Assam. Consequently, waterlogging has been reported on roads due to the rain.

Warning of Severe Heat in These States

According to the Meteorological Department, a new phase of intense heatwaves is set to intensify across the country. Maximum temperatures ranging between 40°C and 45°C have been recorded in Vidarbha, Marathwada, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh. Among the plains, the lowest temperature—16.5°C—was recorded in Gurdaspur (Punjab). Furthermore, heatwave conditions are likely to develop in isolated pockets of Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand until April 25.

According to the IMD, Vidarbha may experience thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds on April 22. Wind speeds could reach 40-50 km per hour. There is also a possibility of light rainfall in some areas.

Weather Update for South Peninsular India

Rainfall is forecast for Kerala and Mahe between April 22 and 23, and for Interior Karnataka, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam between April 22 and 25. Additionally, Coastal Karnataka is likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds between April 23 and 25.
