New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government gave a big relief to its residents, as now they will not need to take leave from their working days to register their property. The government announced that the registry offices will be opened on Sundays as well in nine major cities. The new arrangement will come into effect on April 19, 2026.

Which cities will be able to access the facility?

The big cities in UP, such as Lucknow, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Agra, Aligarh, Kanpur, Saharanpur, and Varanasi, are included in the new arrangement. Apart from this, there are multiple sub-registrar offices for property registration, and a roster system will be implemented to ensure at least one office is open every Sunday, where people can come to register their property.

However, with the announcement, the work on the first day was limited because of a lack of awareness and technical difficulties. A total of 27 deeds were registered on the first Sunday after the announcement.

The AIG (Stamps) Meerut, Naveen Kumar Sharma, said the new system will provide better convenience to the public. The arrangement will open more registrations in the future. The government said that the move has been taken by keeping in mind the modern needs and the digital age. This will help residents to complete their property work hassle-free without waiting in a long queue or taking leave from their offices.

The announcement not only provides relief to the public but also increases the state’s revenue collection. The introduction of Sunday registration is expected to provide significant relief to working people. This is expected to yield positive results in the coming days.
