Bengaluru: Several regions in Karnataka are witnessing intense heat, with maximum temperatures climbing close to the mid-40s over the past two days. The rising mercury levels have impacted both northern and southern parts of the state, raising concerns about prolonged dry conditions.

The state capital, Bengaluru, has also recorded above-normal temperatures. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), readings between Sunday and Monday morning were 2.1 to 2.6 degrees Celsius higher than usual. At the Bengaluru International Airport, the temperature reached 36.8 degrees Celsius, while Bengaluru City recorded 36.2 degrees Celsius. HAL Airport reported 36.4 degrees Celsius, marking the highest deviation from normal among the three stations.

As per the IMD forecast, the maximum and minimum temperatures for Tuesday are likely to be around 36°C and 24°C, respectively, with partly cloudy skies expected.

The air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 91 at 7 am.

Northern districts see extreme highs

North Karnataka districts have been among the worst affected. Kalaburagi recorded the highest temperature in the state at 41.7 degrees Celsius, according to IMD data. However, the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) reported even higher figures, with parts of Raichur touching 43.3 degrees Celsius. KSNDMC data also placed Kalaburagi at 42.5 degrees Celsius.
