The Uttar Pradesh government has given big relief to the farmers on Monday. Now wheat producing farmers will be able to sell their crops at government procurement centers without registration. This step of the government is being seen as a big relief for a large section of farmers. Because with this, the existing condition of first registering oneself at government centers to sell one’s crops has been abolished.

According to officials, farmers will no longer need ‘Farm Registry’ to be eligible and will be able to sell their crops like before the implementation of the new procurement system. District Magistrates across the state have also been directed to implement these instructions with immediate effect and ensure “easy procurement” for all. This decision has apparently been taken after several reports emerged of inconveniences and problems faced by farmers.

This directive is expected to benefit the most those farmers and villages where ‘consolidation’ is going on. Many of these farmers were not able to obtain their ‘Farmer Registry’ certificates due to this process going on in their respective Gram Panchayats.

Due to restrictions, farmers were unable to transport their wheat produce to government centers and were forced to sell their crops to middlemen at very low prices, further increasing their problems. As soon as many farmers expressed their anger, the administration, realizing the seriousness of the situation, announced relaxation in the rules. Under this, farmers especially affected by ‘Chakbandi’ were allowed to follow the old system of wheat procurement.

The purpose of this ‘exemption’ given to wheat producing farmers is to ensure that they do not have to run from pillar to post to sell their crops and that they get equal status as registered farmers in terms of getting the minimum support price for their crops.

After the relaxation of the rules by the state government, now the farmers will have the facility to take their produce to the government procurement centers and while doing so, they can follow the already decided procedure. With this, they can get the right price for their agricultural produce.
