Business Desk – Air India’s New Initiative: India’s leading and prestigious airline, Air India, is now preparing to present itself in a new and premium avatar. The airline, now owned by the Tata Group, is currently upgrading its existing fleet. It is also adding new aircraft.
Additionally, the airline is opening luxurious lounges at major airports around the world. The company aims to attract premium passengers, get better fares and bring the airline back to profitability. Let us know in detail.
This year, Air India will begin operations on eight of its Boeing 787-8 aircraft with completely redesigned interiors. These planes will have new seats, better design and a more comfortable environment. Earlier, passengers had complained about the poor condition of the seats and the quality of food.
As a result, to overcome these shortcomings, the airline is investing approximately $400 million i.e. approximately Rs 3,600 crore. Apart from this, the airline is also upgrading its old Boeing 777 aircraft.
Under these new upgrades, the business class cabin has been completely transformed into a premium experience. It now includes private suites with sliding doors, dedicated luggage storage, modern seat controls and adjustable armrests (which also have water bottle holders). These improvements have been made specifically to make long distance journeys more comfortable.
Air India is going to add about six new wide-body aircraft to its fleet this year. It will also open new premium lounges in cities like San Francisco and New York. It is worth noting that the first of these new lounges was inaugurated in Delhi in February itself.
In these lounges, passengers will enjoy comfortable seating arrangements, fine dining options and premium amenities. The company works on the principle that business and first class cabins generate maximum revenue. This revenue in turn helps keep economy class fares affordable.
