Allahabad High Court has ordered the state government to file a reply in the case of non-veg Iftar party held on a boat on river Ganga in Varanasi. The court gave this direction on April 17 while hearing the bail plea of three youths Danish Saifi, Noor Islam and Aamir Kaifi.
The court has fixed the next hearing on April 24. During the hearing in the court of Justice Jitendra Kumar Sinha, the lawyer of the accused Mohammad Wasim said that these youths have been falsely implicated in the case. At the same time, additional government lawyer Uma Shankar Mishra opposed the bail and sought time to file the counter affidavit.
On March 15, to break the fast of Ramzan, three youths were having an Iftar party in a boat on the river Ganga. BJP Yuva Morcha president Rajat Jaiswal alleged that they ate meat and threw garbage in the river, thereby hurting the religious sentiments of a particular community.
On March 16, Rajat Jaiswal lodged a complaint about this incident at the Kotwali police station. After this the youth were arrested. A case was registered against him under sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS), which include charges like desecrating a place of worship, inciting religious sentiments and extortion. Now the High Court will take further decision in this matter after seeing the reply of the state government.
