Synopsis

Uber Eats now lets users return items easily from home using the app. A courier comes to pick up the product and refunds are started quickly. But users must pay a small fee and follow store rules. Only some shops support this right now. The feature shows how Uber is adding more services beyond just food delivery for users.

Uber Eats has started a new feature that helps people return items they don’t want, so customers don’t have to go to stores themselves. The company officially launched this return option on Friday, April 17, and confirmed the update to the media, according to USA Today. This is said to be the first time an on-demand delivery app is offering such a return service. Now, customers can return items directly from the Uber Eats app and get their refund without stepping outside, according to Uber.

Users just need to open their order history, choose the item, and click on the “return an item” option. After selecting the item, customers must give a reason for returning it before moving ahead. If the item matches the store’s return rules, users can choose “return with a courier” to complete the request. A delivery person (courier) will come to pick up the item from your location, making the process easy.

Uber Eats return fee, refund rules and $20 minimum explained

Once the courier picks up the item, the refund is processed immediately by Uber Eats. But here’s the catch — this service is not free, and customers have to pay a return fee. The return option is only available for items that cost $20 or more, and they must follow the store’s return policy, as cited by USA Today. The refund will include the item price, taxes, and Uber Eats service fees. However, delivery charges and tips paid earlier will NOT be returned to the customer.

Uber Eats return fee cost, supported stores and send items feature explained

The return fee depends on how far the courier has to travel and how much time it takes. Right now, only some stores support this feature, including Petco, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Best Buy. Uber Eats plans to add more retail partners in the future to expand this service. The company also already has another feature called “send items,” which lets users send packages to shipping places.

This “send items” option allows customers to give prepaid and sealed packages (up to 5 at a time) to a courier for delivery. The courier can drop these packages at places like post offices or shipping centers like UPS and FedEx, as cited by USA Today. This package-sending feature was first launched back in 2023, showing Uber’s plan to grow beyond just food delivery.
