New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) all-rounder Tim David broke Travis Head’s record to become the second-fastest batter to complete 1,000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL), in terms of balls taken. David achieved the feat during RCB’s clash against Delhi Capitals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in the IPL 2026 on Saturday, April 18.
David completed 1,000 runs in his IPL career en route to his 26 off 17 balls against the Delhi Capitals. The RCB all-rounder completed 1,000 IPL runs in just 560 deliveries to surpass his Australian teammate, Head, who took 575 deliveries to get to 1,000 runs in the IPL. Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Andre Russell remains the fastest to reach 1,000 runs in the IPL in terms of balls taken.
Russell, who was known for his ruthless and destructive batting, completed 1,000 runs in 555 deliveries in the IPL. He continues to hold the record for being the fastest batter to complete 1,000 runs in the IPL. David’s RCB teammate Phil Salt is in 4th spot in the elite list, having taken 575 balls to complete his first 1,000 runs in the IPL.
545 balls – Andre Russell
560 balls – Tim David*
575 balls – Travis Head
575 balls – Phil Salt
594 balls – Heinrich Klaasen
604 balls – Virender Sehwag
David has been in fine form in the ongoing IPL 2026, constantly providing RCB with explosive finishing cameos towards the end of the innings. However, he failed to fire against DC on Saturday and was dismissed cheaply on 26 off 17 balls. David got off to a brisk start with 22 runs off his first ten balls. However, DC bowlers did well to keep the right-hander at bay.
David was dismissed on 26 by Axar Patel in the 16th over of RCB’s innings after mistiming a shot against the left-arm spinner. The RCB all-rounder failed to read a slower one from the DC skipper and ended up getting a thick edge. He was caught by T Natarajan to depart after a short cameo as RCB lost their 5th wicket in the game on 146.
