Char Dham Yatra is not just a religious pilgrimage; It is a challenging, yet divine journey through the Himalayas. Every year, lakhs of devotees undertake this pilgrimage, and the registration process for 2026 has already begun. If you intend to register offline, it is important that you collect all the necessary information in advance, so that your journey goes smoothly.
How to register offline?
To ease the process of offline registration this year, the Uttarakhand government has set up registration counters in many cities. Registration facility is available in Haridwar, Rishikesh and Dehradun. A large number of counters have been set up at Rishikul grounds in Haridwar, as well as at the transit camp and ISBT in Rishikesh, where devotees can go and complete their registration. Apart from this, offline registration centers have also been set up at several places along the pilgrimage route, such as Jankichatti, Sonprayag, Gaurikund, Joshimath and Govind Ghat. It is mandatory to register at these places, because you may face difficulties if you try to undertake the pilgrimage without registering in advance.
What documents will be required?
Talking about the documents required for this process, you will need these things: Aadhar Card, Identity Card, PAN Card, or Driving License. With either of these identity cards, you will need to provide your mobile number as well as a family member’s mobile number. Apart from this, you will also have to tell the fixed dates of your Char Dham Yatra.
What is the route of travel?
Now, let’s take a look at the complete route of Char Dham Yatra. This pilgrimage includes the four main holy places of Uttarakhand: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. Generally, this journey starts from Haridwar or Rishikesh and follows a traditional order: first Yamunotri, then Gangotri, then Kedarnath, and finally Badrinath. To reach Yamunotri, one has to trek about 6 kilometers starting from Jankichatti. After this, the journey to Gangotri becomes a little easier, as there is a motorable road leading directly to the temple. However, the pilgrimage to Kedarnath is considered the most difficult, requiring a climb of about 16 kilometers from Gaurikund. The journey to Badrinath can be completed by road, making it somewhat easier than other *Dhams*. Still, because the entire route involves mountainous terrain, long distances, and weather challenges, it is important to be fully prepared. Apart from this, you also have the option of traveling by helicopter.
strict health rules
This time the government has also made the health rules more strict. In particular, medical examination has been made mandatory for people above 55 years of age and devotees suffering from any co-morbidity. To ensure that there is no difficulty during the pilgrimage, several health centers and medical relief posts have also been set up. Apart from this, movement of vehicles has been banned after 10:00 pm on the pilgrimage route. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of passengers, as the risks associated with traveling at night in hilly areas are quite high.
