Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urged Members of Parliament to support the amended women’s reservation bill, calling it a historic opportunity to ensure greater representation for women in decision-making roles.
In a message shared on social media, the Prime Minister emphasised the importance of inclusive governance and encouraged lawmakers to act with sensitivity and responsibility. He stated that the time has come to secure equal political participation for women across the country.
Highlighting the significance of the bill, Modi appealed to MPs to consider the women in their lives while casting their votes.
He said, “Keeping in mind your mother, sister, daughter, wife, listen to your conscience. This is a great opportunity to serve the women of the country.”
The Prime Minister added that millions of women are looking toward Parliament with hope, expecting meaningful steps toward empowerment and representation.
The proposed legislation aims to enhance women’s participation in governance, addressing the long-standing issue of underrepresentation in legislative bodies.

Shashi Tharoor and other leaders have argued that the delimitation process—linked to population-based seat redistribution—could impact the representation of certain regions, particularly southern states.
They have also raised questions about whether assurances regarding seat distribution are clearly defined in law.
The discussion around the bill has expanded into a broader debate on electoral fairness and representation. Critics have cautioned that:
The government, however, has maintained that concerns have been addressed and that the bill is aimed at strengthening democratic participation.
