A major accident was averted at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Thursday. A SpiceJet aircraft taxiing near the runway collided with an Akasa Air aircraft parked there. After this incident, the Akasa Air flight to Hyderabad was immediately canceled and the passengers and crew members were deboarded safely.


Accident happened during taxi, wings got damaged


According to the information, SpiceJet’s B737-700 aircraft was taxiing at Delhi Airport. During this time, he came in contact with the Akasa Air aircraft present there. Due to this collision, the right winglet of SpiceJet and the left horizontal stabilizer of Akasa Air have been damaged. As a precaution, civil aviation authorities have grounded this SpiceJet aircraft in Delhi itself.


Alternative arrangements for passengers


An Akasa Air spokesperson issued a statement saying that their aircraft was stationary when the incident occurred. All passengers and crew are safe, the spokesperson said. Our ground teams are making alternative arrangements to reach the passengers to Hyderabad as soon as possible. After preliminary investigation, the reasons for the incident are being ascertained in detail.


Akasa Air update on flights amid Middle East crisis


Apart from this incident, Akasa Air has clarified its position on its international flights in view of the current geopolitical situation in the Middle East. The airline has announced that after the safety assessment, flights from Jeddah to Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kochi and Kozhikode will continue to operate as before.


Regarding the Abu Dhabi service, the airline said they are gradually evaluating the resumption of operations there. Passengers have been requested to use the official website or mobile app for latest schedules and booking information.
