For many in Bengaluru, Corner House is synonymous with indulgent sundaes, thick scoops and the legendary Death By Chocolate. But a surprising detail from its early years has now left many dessert lovers stunned.

Long before it became the city’s beloved ice cream chain, Corner House was originally known for serving burgers, pizzas and hot dogs.

Before sundaes, it was a full café

The nostalgic revelation resurfaced during an online show where longtime patrons recalled that the original Residency Road outlet once had a full food menu.

Customers reportedly visited not only for desserts, but also for hearty meals and fast-food favourites.

Many younger Bengaluru residents were surprised to learn that the now-famous dessert brand once operated as a complete eatery.

Began in 1982

Established in 1982, Corner House first started as a café-style outlet in Bengaluru.

Reports suggest the brand even made fresh bread in-house for burgers and sandwiches, years before its dessert menu became the main attraction.

Over time, its ice cream creations grew in popularity and gradually became the centrepiece of the business.

Birth of Death By Chocolate

Corner House later created one of its most iconic desserts — Death By Chocolate — in 1994.

According to earlier social media posts by the brand, the dessert was born after a customer asked for something bigger, richer and more sinful.

The item soon became one of Bengaluru’s most recognisable food favourites.

A city’s sweet memory

Today, Corner House remains deeply woven into Bengaluru’s food culture, proving that even iconic brands can have surprising beginnings.
