New Delhi: Prabhsimran Singh stole Quinton de Kock‘s thunder as Punjab Kings crushed Mumbai Indians by seven wickets to soar to the top of IPL 2026 standings on Thursday.
De Kock creamed an unbeaten 112 to lift Mumbai to a fighting 195 for six but Singh’s unbeaten 80 and skipper Shreyas Iyer‘s 66 enabled Punjab to reach their target in 16.3 overs to remain the only team in the tournament.
With their fourth win in five matches and a point earned from a washout, Punjab went to the top spot with nine points and kept Mumbai on ninth with only two points from a win in five games.
In his first match of this edition after sitting out Mumbai’s first four matches, de Kock was at his fluent best, striking eight boundaries and seven sixes for this third century in tournament history.
The South African became the third player after KL Rahul and Sanju Samson to hit three hundreds for three different teams.
De Kock made the most of an opportunity that came his way after Rohit Sharma missed the match with a hamstring injury.
Iyer on the chargeBut it didn’t prove to be enough by a ling margin, as Prabhsimran’s 39-ball knock, studded with 11 fours and two sixes, silenced the local crowd at Wankhede stadium.
AM Ghazanfar’s (2/31) gave Mumbai hope to defend their total as Punjab were 45 for two in 4.3 overs but Prabhsimran and Iyer’s 139-run stand off 67 balls for the third wicket took the game away.
Earlier, sent in to bat, de Kock’s 60-ball knock, along with Naman Dhir’s 3-ball 50 was the cornerstone of their innings.
They stitched a 122-run partnership off 68 balls before de Kock added another 41 off 23 with skipper Hardik Pandya (14).
But Prabhsimran and Iyer, who scored his third consecutive fifty, overshadowed the de Kock-Dhir effort to condemn Mumbai for their fourth successive defeat.
Arshdeep Singh (3/22) entered the 100-wicket club and became the first Punjab bowler to claim a ton of wickets.
