With a career that boasts hits like Moh Moh Ke Dhaage, Sawaar Loon, Aga Bai, Khwab Dekhe Jhoote Moote, Badri Ki Dulhaniya, Zara Zara Touch Me and Cham Cham, singer Monali Thakur has consistently demonstrated her ability to traverse genres with ease. Now, with her latest trio of songs, the singer is ready to present a more personal and uninhibited version of herself.
Her newest EP features three tracks, each reflecting a unique shade of love and emotion. Releasing all three songs on the same day, earlier this month, Monali promised listeners a layered musical experience. The project, she explained, is an attempt to move beyond the image audiences have long associated with her.
“People know me for sweet, innocent, romantic songs from my Bollywood journey. But I have a very strong and diverse mind, with so many different sounds and thoughts constantly playing in my head. I’m really excited to explore different themes and put that out through my music now,” she says.
BREAKING FREE FROM EXPECTATIONS
Of late, the singer has not been very prolific when it came to Bollywood playback , feel her fans and Monali acknowledges those questions and sees her new release as a long-awaited answer. “My fans have been asking me for years why I’m not singing more, and I’m finally happy that I have something to share with them,” she shares. “There’s still more to the story that I’ll talk about later, but for now, I just hope my music reaches more people and that my listeners know they can now find me in this space- being completely uninhibited and honest with my music. For many years, I’ve been wanting to release my EPs, albums, and singles independently, to have full creative control and to explore sounds and sonic spaces that I personally love,” she says.
Highlighting her wide-ranging musical influences , she adds, “I listen to a wide variety of music, and I’ve always wanted to express that side of me. So I’m honestly very happy and excited that I’m finally able to put these three songs out - Nai Milna Ve, Piya/I Wanna, and Butterflies.”
