The popular OTT sci-fi series, Dune: Prophecy, is based on sci-fi’s nature. 10,000 years before the 2021 film adaptation of Dune, Dune: Prophecy serves as a prequel series providing the origin of the Bene Gesserit Order. It portrays a powerful and secretive matriarchal society that possesses extraordinary abilities both physically and mentally.

Dune: Prophecy Season 2 – Release window

Season 2 of the Dune: Prophecy Series is coming to HBO/Max in 2026.

Production began in late 2025 (filming locations included Hungary, Jordan, and Spain) and was completed on March 21, 2026. Season 2 will consist of eight episodes (two fewer than season 1). As of April 14, 2026, a precise release date has not yet been announced; however, some reports suggest it may be released in the latter part of the year, several weeks before Dune: Part 3, slated for release in December 2026.

Dune: Prophecy Season 2 – Storyline

The show will have its storyline approximately 10,000 years before Dune, as written by Frank Herbert and filmed by Denis Villeneuve. The story is based on the Sisterhood of Dune, written by Brian Herbert & Kevin J. Anderson and is a prequel to the Sisterhood and tells about the rise of the Bene Gesserit religion, their political games, their super-human abilities (i.e., voice and truth-speaking), and the long-term breeding program after the Butlerian Jihad (which was fought against all sentient machines except those that the Bene Gesserit created).

At the end of the first season, there were some major shifts in power. The Emperor, Javicco Corrino, has died and created a vacuum for succession (with the Bene Gesserit working to influence Princess Ynez), some surprising revelations about the origins of Desmond Hart (he was implanted with a virus from a sentient machine that gives him the ability to destroy things), and finally, Valya Harkonnen’s visions have pointed toward Arrakis, suggesting he will play a role in the larger threat.

The second season will include:

  • The continuing evolution of the sisterhood, including the institutions that have assisted it (such as Valya) in surviving and continuing to grow on the planet Arrakis (shown briefly in footage).

  • Valya will also be shown in Fremen territories along with groups that seem to have an attachment to them.

  • It is expected to see that the director will also take more time to show the relationship between various factions, such as the Spacing Guild and the Mentat Order.

  • It is expected to continue to follow the conflicts being waged against the sisterhood, the mysterious abilities of Desmond Hart and his blackmailer or puppet master, the conflict between the imperial succession and power struggles, and the continuing personal and family conflicts between the Harkonnen sisters (incl. flashbacks of young Valya and Tula).

Alison Schapker (The Zookeepers) has made it abundantly clear that power, control over one’s destiny, and the sisterhood’s journey in navigating threats while accomplishing their goals are the major themes of the series. The audience can look forward to much more political intrigue, prophetic visions, and the continued expansion of the Dune universe.
