You must have eaten the sweet Jalebi a lot. But hardly anyone has heard about Jungle Jalebi which grows on trees rich in nutritious elements. This unique fruit has a special place in Ayurveda. Its taste is a mixture of sweet and sour, which is no less than an elixir for health.


Rich in iron, calcium, vitamin C and antioxidants, this fruit is very helpful in increasing immunity, improving digestion and strengthening bones. The scientific name of Jungle Jalebi is Pithecellobium dulse. It is also known as Manila Tamarind or Madras Thorn. It is a medium-sized evergreen tree, whose pods are curved and look like jalebi. When ripe, these beans become red or pink in color. Inside there is white pulp, which has a sweet-sour taste. There are about 10 seeds in one pod.


This fruit is a treasure trove of nutritious elements. It contains good amount of iron, which prevents anemia and increases energy. Calcium and phosphorus make bones and teeth strong. Being rich in Vitamin C, it boosts immunity and helps fight infections. Antioxidants (flavonoids, polyphenols) reduce oxidative stress in the body, reduce inflammation and slow the aging process.


This fruit is also very useful from the point of view of digestion. Dietary fiber is found in abundance in it, which relieves constipation, keeps the intestines healthy and improves the digestive system. Its anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and blood diabetes controlling properties have also been found in many studies.


In traditional medicine it is used for stomach problems, fever and skin problems. Apart from this, being thorny, this tree is also useful as fencing and fence. It grows rapidly and also helps in increasing soil fertility. This fruit, easily available on the roadside or in the market in summer, is beneficial for everyone from children to the elderly.


The special thing is that it can be eaten raw or can be drunk by making juice. However, it is better to consult a doctor before consuming excessive amounts.
