Delhi Capitals batter Nitish Rana has been penalized 25% of his match fees due to an heated incident that occurred on Saturday night during an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai.

The incident occurred in the 19th over of the match where well set DC batter Tristan Stubbs had requested the umpire to change his wet gloves as the Humidity in Chennai was really high, and Stubbs did not want to bat with his sticky gloves. However, the umpired denied the request and Stubbs was dismissed on the next delivery which resulted in a scuffle on the field.

Stubbs anger was visible as the batter dropped his bat in the dug out and threw his helment after reaching the dressing room. Nitish Rana went to the 4th umpire to have a word with him and the argument escalated, after which necessary steps were taken.

In a statement, IPL said:

"Nitish Rana, batter, Delhi Capitals has been fined 25% of his match fee and has also accumulated 1 demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL's Code of Conduct for Players."

The statement added:

"Rana was found to have breached article 2.3 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which relates to 'use of an audible obscenity during a match'."

Rana admitted his mistake and has accepted the penalty handed by the match referee.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been fined too after the game, as his team did not complete the stipulated overs within the given time.

The IPL media advisory read:

"As this was his team's first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Gaikwad was fined INR 12 lakhs."

In a positive note for Chennai Super Kings, it was a good game and they beat the Delhi Capitals by 23 runs at the MA Chidambaram stadium, notching up their first victory of the season in the IPL 2026. CSK will now play against Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday.
