Mikel Arteta called on the Arsenal fans to make noise ahead of Saturday's clash with Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium. His wish was granted, just not in the way he'd have been hoping for.

A chorus of boos greeted the full-time whistle in north London, as Arsenal's title hopes were dealt a potentially devastating blow. Arteta described the loss as a 'punch in the face', and claimed his players were 'hurting' after the defeat.

Perhaps more concerning, though, would have been just how many of them looked incredibly bang average when push came to shove. And it could be performances like this, in the midst of a titanic title tussle, that forces Arteta to once again shuffle his pack in the off-season. To put it bluntly, there are five Arsenal players who just aren't good enough.

Let's start with the Arsenal goalscorer. Viktor Gyokeres' penalty was sensational. Genuinely. A rocket from the right boot that left Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic with no chance of making a save.

Everything that came before and after it though, was disgraceful. It was like watching a member of the public trying to impersonate a professional footballer at times.

He had three chances in the second half when Arsenal were chasing a goal. For one of them, he was a yard offside, the other was miskicked over the crossbar, and then to wrap it all up, a header that travelled further wide than it did forwards toward the goal.

Arsenal spent £55million on his signature for goals to win games like this. But unless they're going to change their style of play to accommodate Gyokeres' profile, they might as well just cut their losses while they can.

It wasn't much better elsewhere. Gabriel Martinelli's only notable contribution of the match came when he shook hands with team-mate Leandro Trossard after being subbed in the second half. Speaking of which, the Belgian was not much better himself. That left-wing position is in need of some serious surgery during the summer.

As are the full-back positions. Arsenal's defensive stability has been one of the cornerstones of their season so far, but with Ben White at right-back and Myles Lewis-Skelly at left-back, the hosts were hampered instead of helped on Saturday.

It's no surprise that reports suggest both White and Lewis-Skelly could be on the chopping block this summer. The latter's departure should free up some space as far as squad costs rules go, given the academy product's sale would count as pure profit in the books. Meanwhile, White looks more and more dispensable for Arsenal as the weeks (and the defeats) pass by.
