New Delhi: Veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle suffered a cardiac arrest on Saturday, April 10 and has been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. She is currently receiving treatment in the Emergency Medical Services unit, according to hospital doctor Pratit Samdani.

The singer’s family has not released any statement so far regarding her hospitalisation, and further updates on her condition are awaited.

At 92, Asha Bhosle remains one of the most prolific voices in Indian music, with a staggering repertoire of over 12,000 songs recorded across more than 20 languages.

Asha Bhosle’s remarkable career is marked by unmatched versatility, spanning soulful ghazals to energetic cabaret numbers. Her collaboration with OP Nayyar produced classics like Aao Huzoor Tumko, while Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko, composed by RD Burman, remains one of Hindi cinema’s most iconic romantic tracks.

She brought a bold, sensuous edge to songs such as Piya Tu Ab Toh Aaja and Yeh Mera Dil, redefining the sound of Bollywood music. At the same time, she demonstrated exceptional depth through timeless renditions like In Aankhon Ki Masti and Dil Cheez Kya Hai, cementing her command over classical and semi-classical music that continues to captivate generations.

During the 1990s and early 2000s, Asha Bhosle saw a remarkable resurgence in her career as she embraced a contemporary, pop-driven sound. Her collaboration with AR Rahman delivered chartbusters like Tanha Tanha and Rangeela Re, while tracks such as Raat Akeli Hai (remix) and Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main became hugely popular. She also made a strong mark in the Indipop space with hits like Janat-e-Jahan and Kabhi To Nazar Milao.

Bhosle has received some of the country’s highest honours in recognition of her immense contribution to music. She was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008. She has also won two National Film Awards for her exceptional performances in Umrao Jaan and Ijaazat, further solidifying her status as one of India’s most celebrated musical icons.
