Mirzapur: Two motorcycle-borne men fired at a lawyer, killing him on the spot in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district. The incident led to panic after the attack, the two accused were in shock as their bike refused to start after the cold-blooded murder.

The CCTV video of the incident shows that two men, riding a bike, approach a 40-year-old advocate, Rajiv Singh. While the victim was out for a morning walk, the two men can be seen approaching him in the footage. One of the accused then gets close to Rajiv Singh and fires at him using a crude pistol, killing the victim on the spot.

However, when he rushed back to the bike, the other accused continued to kick the two-wheeler to start, but failed. Till then, some men approached them. Soon, one of the two accused fired, threatening the men. After some time, the motorcycle started, following which the two accused fled the scene.

Later, several people gathered at the spot. While the police filed an FIR in the case, five teams have also been formed to nab those behind the crime. As per the police, the initial probe suggested that the murder might be due to issues arising in the village itself; all angles are being probed, and a thorough probe is on.

Highly credible leads obtained: Police

“We will ensure that the strictest possible legal action is taken against the individual responsible for committing this crime,” NDTV quoted a police officer as saying. The officer added, “Our team has obtained highly credible leads in this matter and is actively pursuing the investigation.”

Notably, the victim had earlier submitted an application, expressing concerns that he might be attacked. A former village head, he was attacked on two occasions earlier. Reacting to the incident, the Opposition slammed the state government, pointing out that the criminals are “roaming free” in Uttar Pradesh.
