News India Live, Digital Desk: In today’s digital era, every user has a smartphone in their hand and every user wants superfast internet speed. To capitalize on this need, telecom companies are indiscriminately advertising ‘unlimited 5G data’. But have you ever noticed that the data which you are recharging considering it ‘unlimited’, actually never ends? The reality is that as tempting as the word ‘unlimited’ appears in advertisements, the conditions hidden behind it are equally complex. Many times users feel cheated even after heavy recharge, when suddenly their rocket-like speed comes down to a turtle’s speed.

What is the illusion of FUP? What companies hide from you

If you are thinking that in an unlimited plan you can spend as much data as you want, then you are wrong. Actually, most telecom companies Fair Usage Policy (FUP) Work under. This simply means that the company has set a secret data limit. For example, if you use 300GB or more data in a month, the company suddenly reduces your speed. Companies often do not disclose this limit, but users doing heavy downloading or streaming have to face this ‘speed break’.

These 3 conditions are mandatory to truly enjoy 5G

Just getting recharge done is not enough, to step into the world of unlimited 5G you will have to fulfill these criteria:

5G enabled smartphone: The handset in your hand should support 5G technology.

network coverage: The company’s 5G service should be live in the area you are in.

Plan Price: Most companies have set a minimum recharge condition of ₹ 239 or more to avail the benefit of unlimited 5G. If your plan is smaller than this, you will not be able to enjoy the speed of 5G even if you want to.

Why don’t you get ‘superfast’ speed even if you have a 5G phone?

Many users complain that despite having 5G network, the internet runs slow. The main reason behind this is ‘network congestion’. When the load on the same tower increases during peak hours, the speed automatically drops. Additionally, if you are away from a mobile tower or in a closed room or basement, the 5G signals become weak, which affects the downloading speed.

‘Loophole’ of 4G and 5G: Traveling may become difficult

Most unlimited 5G plans available in India are actually ‘extra benefits’ bundled with your existing 4G plan. Its biggest drawback is that as soon as you move out of the 5G coverage area while traveling, your phone immediately switches to the 4G network. In this case, your daily data limit (like 1.5GB or 2GB) gets implemented immediately. That is, the data that you were using freely on 5G can get exhausted within a few minutes as soon as you come to the 4G area. Therefore, read the fine print of the ‘Terms and Conditions’ before recharging next time.
