In a sensational run chase, Rajasthan Royals defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 16th match of IPL 2026. The Royals crossed the 202-run mark with six wickets to spare and pulled off one of their highest successfully chases in IPL history.


 


After a see-saw battle on the batting front, RR kept their cool and made light of a huge score. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi took charge at the top and the game was well and truly done in the middle order thanks to an excellent partnership between Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja.


 

Patidar-Venkatesh Powers RCB to 201 After Collapse

 


Having asked to bat first, Royal Challengers Bengaluru put up a challenging 201-8 in the allotted 20 overs. Their innings got off to the worst possible start as opener Phil Salt failed to get off the mark on the opening ball and was dismissed by his countryman Jofra Archer.


 


Virat Kohli provided the impetus to their innings with a quickfire 32 off just 16 balls, helping his side get off to a flying start. Devdutt Padikkal also chipped in with a handy quickfire knock, but the RCB middle order was dealt with a blow by frequent wickets.


 


Skipper Rajat Patidar led from the front, playing the knock of the day for RCB by smashing a blistering 63 off 40 deliveries, laced with 4 boundaries and as many sixes. But a lack of support in the middle overs slowed down their momentum.


 


In the death overs, Venkatesh Iyer and Romario Shepherd picked up the pace to get RCB across the 200-run mark and end their innings on a high of 201-8.

Sooryavanshi Goes Berserk as RR Chase 202 in Style

 


The Rajasthan Royals looked on course to chase 202, starting strongly in their hunt. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi provided flying start, going berserk on the RCB bowling attack right from the beginning of the innings. The 15-year-old hammered every RCB bowlers including the greats like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hazlewood. 


 


The middle overs collapsed saw a couple of wickets fall but the tail stood firm with Dhruv Jurel (81*) anchoring the innings, followed by Ravindra Jadeja (24*) supporting well for no further collapse. RR looked comfortable while finishing the chase off, ending the game with 6 wickets remaining. The teen sensatation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was named Player of the Match for his blazing 78 off just 26. His innings comprised of eight fours and seven sixes.
