Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh: Taking an important decision, President Draupadi Murmu has nominated Harivansh as a member of Rajya Sabha. This step has been taken to fill the vacant seat in the Rajya Sabha after the retirement of a nominated member.

Harivansh, who is currently serving as the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, has deep experience of parliamentary procedures and legislative work. His previous term ended on April 9, 2026. After not being re-nominated by JDU, he has now been sent back to the House from the nominated quota by the President.

Under Article 80 of the Constitution of India, the President has the power to nominate 12 persons to the Rajya Sabha who have special knowledge or practical experience in fields such as literature, science, art and social service. Harivansh has been nominated under these constitutional provisions.
