New Delhi. On March 8, in a very exciting match of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Gujarat Titans registered their first win of the season by defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) on the last ball. The result of the match kept swinging till the last ball, where a small mistake by David Miller cost Delhi dearly. This match was played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Chasing the target of 211 runs, Delhi Capitals team could score only 209 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs and remained just one run away from victory. 13 runs were needed to win in the last over. Prasidh Krishna was bowling. Miller batted brilliantly and took the match till the last ball. But his refusal to take a single on the fourth ball proved to be his biggest mistake.

Delhi needed 2 runs on the last ball. Prasidh bowled a slow bouncer, which Miller could not connect. While trying to score runs, Kuldeep Yadav remained out of the crease and Jos Buttler gave the match to Gujarat by stumping. Delhi took a review for wide, but the ball was declared fair.

Know the thrill of the last over

By the 19th over, the Titans were in complete control of the game and the home team needed 36 runs in the last two overs. Earlier, he had scored 23 runs in Siraj’s over.

Prasidh Krishna had to defend 13 runs on the last six balls. Vipraj Nigam was out after hitting a four on the first ball, leaving Miller to score 8 runs on the last three balls. After this, a big hit was made at long-off on the fourth ball which almost decided the match for Delhi Capitals.

But the fifth ball that Prasidh Krishna bowled to David Miller did not yield any runs. Short of length ball played at an angle, Miller turned and pulled it to deep square leg. When Kuldeep was sent back, he was halfway there. Miller wanted to do this himself. If the score was equal, he would have got a single and even if Kuldeep had missed, the match would have been tied. After this the equation became 2 runs on 1 ball.

With 2 runs needed on the last ball, Prasidh bowled a slow bouncer which Miller did not connect, and went for a run, leaving Kuldeep Yadav out of the crease. The review called it wide but it was considered a fair delivery, which left Miller disappointed. This was Delhi Capitals’ first defeat of the season, while the Titans finally got full points in the third attempt.

For Delhi, KL Rahul played an inning of 92 runs in 52 balls, while Pathum Nissanka scored 41 runs. There was a partnership of 76 runs between the two, due to which the team looked to be in a strong position.

However, Rashid Khan changed the course of the match by taking three wickets in the middle overs. After this Delhi’s innings faltered. Delhi needed 36 runs before the last over. Miller gave life to the match by scoring 23 runs in Mohammad Siraj’s over, but in the end one of his mistakes cost the team dearly.
