Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted a surprise inspection of the State GST office located at ITO intersection on Wednesday (April 8) morning. There was panic among the officers and employees due to the sudden arrival of the Chief Minister at the office. During the inspection, many employees and officers were not present at their seats, some rooms were found closed, while many tables were lying empty. Seeing the situation, the Chief Minister clearly expressed his displeasure and sought immediate answers from the senior officials present on the spot. During interrogation, instructions were also given to the officers to make it clear that in future, complete preparation of the office should be ensured for such surprise inspection.
The Chief Minister clearly told the officials that government offices are for the service of the public. He asked how many employees were present and how many were absent without notice. After this he immediately asked for the detailed attendance report of the entire office. He directed that the records of every employee’s attendance, arrival time and last few days should be sent directly to his office. During this surprise inspection, the Chief Minister told the officials that if the employees do not come to the office on time, then how will the work of the common people be managed. He made it clear that in future, complete preparation of the office should be ensured for such surprise inspections.
Action will be taken against employees missing from office
According to sources, the Chief Minister warned that strict action would be taken against officers and employees who are found missing from office without reason. He said that negligence, delay and obstruction in public work will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He also made it clear to the officials that in future such surprise inspections will be conducted regularly and no employee should think that he will get advance information.
Public work should be completed within stipulated time
During the inspection, the Chief Minister also interacted with the people visiting the office. Many people complained that they had to make several trips to get their work done, some said that officials do not sit on time and files remain stuck for several days. The Chief Minister took these complaints seriously and directed the officials to complete the public work within the stipulated time. Delhi government has been emphasizing on improving the functioning of government offices for some time. The Chief Minister had recently given a clear message to all the departments that delay in work, negligence and lack of accountability will no longer be tolerated. The aim of the government is that every department works on time and the common man does not have to visit offices.
Now strictness will increase in government offices
The State GST Department handles tax matters to traders and shopkeepers. In such a situation, absence of employees and delay in work directly affects the public. After this surprise inspection by the Chief Minister, it is believed that the strictness may increase in other government offices of Delhi also. An attempt has been made to give a message to the officers and employees that it is necessary to come to office on time and work properly, otherwise action is certain. However, only time will tell what impact this surprise inspection will have on the employees.
