As medical science has progressed, the complexity of diseases has also increased. Now youth are also falling prey to diseases which were earlier associated with old age. The main reasons behind this are our changing eating habits, adulteration of food items available in the market, and our increasing inactive lifestyle. Along with this, pollution has also become a major cause of many health problems. While today we have access to cutting-edge medical treatments and supplements to address nutritional deficiencies, people in the past took care of their health through completely natural methods.
Nowadays, lifestyle has become so fast that people do not even have time to sit and eat food. While traditional remedies are still available, we also have digital health apps and online diet plans at our disposal. Still, the key to staying healthy is the same old principle—a rule that we can follow to stay healthy forever.
In today’s time, it is recommended to walk 10,000 steps every day. It not only controls weight but is also beneficial for the heart and brain. Nowadays, daily routines are mostly passive, whereas earlier people used to move naturally during their daily activities. Whether to bring vegetables from the market or to go to the fields, people usually traveled on foot or by bicycle.
Physical activity is essential to maintain health. Nowadays people attend gyms, yoga classes or activities like Zumba. The importance of yoga for Indians goes back centuries. If we compare modern and traditional methods, nowadays people work out in the morning or evening. In earlier times, people used to burn calories naturally while doing household chores.
Nowadays, people immediately take painkillers as soon as they have slight pain. But earlier people used to rely on home remedies. For example, sandalwood paste was used for headache, clove for toothache, and fenugreek and celery for stomach ache. These traditional remedies are still effective today.
Nowadays people stay up late at night and wake up late in the morning, which has a negative impact on their health. The solution to this problem is ‘power nap’, which recommends sleeping for a while during the day. In contrast, earlier people used to sleep early and wake up early, which allowed them to get adequate sleep.
Nowadays, people make special diet plans after consulting experts. But earlier people used desi ghee and pure mustard oil, and their diet included organic vegetables and whole grains. Thus, their eating habits were naturally balanced.
