AI infrastructure startup WorkOnGrid has raised Rs 22.5 Crore led by Transition Venture Capital; the round also saw participation from the Indian Angel Network (IAN).

The Bengaluru-based startup was founded in 2017 by its CEO Udit Poddar, COO Shreyansh Jain, CTO Aayush Agrawal, and CMO Shaurya Poddar. The firm helps electricity, water, and gas providers bring all their data together, predict issues in advance, and automate tasks to run operations more efficiently and reliably, said Udit Poddar.

The company started as a data consulting firm for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), before pivoting in 2021 to build energy industry-focussed products.

“This funding will primarily go towards expanding our global go-to-market efforts and strengthening our AI and machine learning capabilities, as we scale the platform for more advanced utility markets worldwide,” said Udit Poddar.

The company currently works with over 20 electricity and water utility services globally and manages data from millions of smart meters, which are digital devices that track consumption in real time.

According to Tracxn, the startup's revenue increased from Rs 69.7 lakh in FY21 to Rs 7.23 crore in FY25. The company was also in the black in FY25, reporting a net profit of Rs 6.6 lakh after recording losses in the previous four fiscal years.

The firm claims it is positioning itself as a flexible, integration-first platform that can work across existing energy enterprise systems such as SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), GIS (Geographic Information System), ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure), and IoT (Internet of Things), allowing clients to use the software without overhauling their current infrastructure.

“The energy distribution sector is undergoing a massive change with the rise of solar, EVs, and data centres, making grid resilience and flexibility critical,” Udit Poddar added.
