A heavy shower washed out the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings on April 6 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Meanwhile, the Punjab spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was found in a fun moment with the KKR fielding coach Dishant Yagnik. In a video that went viral, Chahal was spotted having a chat with Yagnik that went to fun smashing, with Yagnik seen trying to protect his head.

Rain stopped play in Kolkata

There were weather forecasts of heavy rain in Kolkata till Thursday. Even the practice of both teams at Eden Gardens was cancelled due to the water patches. On match days there were no traces of rain since the morning until clouds reappeared in the evening.

The toss happened. Ajinkya Rahane, leading the home side, decided to bat first, already giving an advantage to Punjab. Only three overs and four balls were bowled before drizzles started coming. The ground was covered immediately, and the groundsmen stood there on the joints before they started bringing slabs.

There was a moment when the covers started to come off, but the rain came back with intensity. Strong winds started to blow, attempting to blow off the covers. The rain continued until almost 10:30 pm, and the covers were taken off.

After a careful inspection by the umpires, it was decided to call off the match with the consent of both captains. Notably, the field was wet, and water leaked in. Patches formed beyond the boundary line, making it impossible to start the match for at least five on a side. This at least gave a point to KKR, who were struggling to get one after two back-to-back defeats.

Meanwhile, the Shreyas Iyer-led side was already having an upper hand. Xavier Bartlett had already dismissed Finn Allen and Cameron Green. Eden Gardens will be hosting Lucknow Super Giants on April 9, that is, Thursday, which has a forecast of heavy rain indicating a possible washout.

Notably, last year, KKR had a truncated match against PBKS. However, fans got to witness a first innings entirely before rain became a spoilsport.
