There is much anticipation in the air for the next IPL 2026 match between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians, taking place at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. The match promises to have some of the biggest stories running within it, and perhaps one of the most fascinating will be the potential duel between young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and the current biggest name in Indian fast bowling, Jasprit Bumrah. It may be the first time both have come face-to-face, and will surely be one that cricket fans would be keeping a very close eye on.
It is not hard to see why there is so much hype around the 15-year-old Sooryavanshi, who has already taken his first step into the IPL by showing he is capable of attacking the bowlers right from the start of his innings and is not one bit shy of the biggest names in cricket. The 15-year-old would fancy his chances up against Bumrah, and the world has been excited to see how the youngsters' fearless style can do against one of the best in the game.
Finch Shares His Plan to Neutralize Young Star
Before the match, Mumbai Indians assistant coach and former Australia captain Aaron Finch, discussed his thoughts on how his team may attempt to stop the talented youngster. He went on to suggest that Bumrah could be used early on in the innings.
Finch spoke to ESPNcricinfo:
"I would expect Bumrah to go really full if he bowls earlier than we've said. I know he has bowled a couple of overs in the powerplay, but if they do give him the ball first up, he'll probably look to go really full and try to knock him over with a bit of swing."
Finch added:
"I don't think it really matters how he lines up against him. It's such an unusual prospect when you're looking at a 15-year-old. He's much closer to the start of his teenage years than the end, so it's remarkable."
Finch commented on the novelty of a player so young being put in such a position in such a competitive arena. He spoke about how unusual it is given the youngster's age.
Meanwhile, Finch also went on to applaud the abilities of both players, praising the planning of Bumrah, while also acknowledging the bold nature of Sooryavanshi.
Finch concluded:
"Bumrah is a wonderful bowler, he has plans and tricks for every batter. But Sooryavanshi's ability to walk in from the start and take on any attack is so special. To see a young kid play with that kind of freedom is incredible."
